李氏大院是白族传统民居“四合五天井”的典型建筑，有大门，后门，四方有四幢楼房合在一起，每两幢房之间有一小天井，院心为大天井，共有五个天井，大门为三滴水造型，雕梁画栋，飞檐翘角，彩画以文房、诗书、花鸟、山水、虫鱼为主，充分体现房主人的意愿和家风。

As a typical architecture featuring Bai ethnic group’s traditional “Quadrangle with Five Courtyards” style, Li’s Compound consists of four buildings to form a closed unit. In total there are five courtyards in the compound: a large one in the centre of the unit and a smaller one in between every two buildings. The compound also has a front entrance and a back door. The front entrance is designed to have a three-water-droplet shape. The beams of the compound are well carved, rafters are nicely decorated with paintings, and the eaves are pointed upwards. Mainly featuring themes such as stationary, poetries, books, flowers, birds, mountains, water, insects and fish, the paintings of the compound thoroughly reflect the wills and family values of the property owner.
